Bridal party walking at Bassmead Manor Barns

Charlotte and James tell us about their Bassmead Manor Barns wedding.

I’m so excited to share this Bassmead Manor Barns wedding with you and whilst I absolutely love talking about all things weddings, sometimes it’s best to hear from the Bride and Groom’s themselves. Read on to find out all about how they planned their wedding.

What were the most important things, the ones you kept coming back to during planning?

The most important thing was the photographer. Seriously, there is no point spending all this money on a day and not get the awesome photos as evidence. So I would 100000% say that Heather was the most important part of the wedding (after the venue of course)!

How did you choose your suppliers?

On any special occasion we order cheesecakes from ‘The Dessert Man’ as they are our favourite. Once we were engaged, it was an easy decision for our cake, we just asked him if he would make our favourite cheesecake. We chose the Florist as she was local so I thought it would be easier for me to meet with her if she was close by. All other vendors were on the ‘Recommended Vendors’ list from Bassmead.

What made you choose your venue?

Bassmead was the only venue we went to see and we fell in love immediately. It was a really easy decision, we walked in and knew straight away that we couldn’t find somewhere more perfect for us.

What inspired your details and styling?

I went for really basic and easy details… I didn’t want to spend loads of money on the things that I wouldn’t necessarily remember in 20 years time. The theme came easily once we booked Bassmead, as it’s a barn so we went for a rustic theme and I think it really worked.

How did you choose your outfits and accessories?

I knew that I wanted burgundy dresses for the bridesmaids and James wanted to wear a blue suit. I just went and found a couple of different dresses and then the bridesmaids made the final decision on what they wore! We had very little in accessories, but anything like hair and make up styles were chosen by the bridesmaids as I just wanted them to be comfortable. James sorted everything for the boys.

What was it like working with Heather as your photographer?

Heather was AMAZING. She felt like more of a guest than a vendor. I would definitely recommend her to anyone getting married and the photos we have are stunning. We have had so many compliments on the photos and how beautiful everyone looks so what more could I want?

What are your favourite memories from your wedding day?

My favourite memories are:

Getting ready… I was in a weird state of mind where I kept on forgetting that it was my wedding day and I was just so happy to be hanging out with my favourite people.

Walking down the aisle and seeing James actually crying his eyes out.

Dancing in the evening… at about 11pm there was a mini rave on the dance floor and EVERYONE was dancing. It was shoulder to shoulder and Rob the DJ played some absolute bangers!

Do you have any tips or advice for other couples planning their wedding?

There are so many options for weddings… which DJ? Which flowers? My advice is to just pick something and go with your gut. We were really decisive with our wedding, which made it easy to plan. We went with vendors that knew the venue, so we didn’t have to worry about them not knowing their way around or if the DJ knew how big the space was, or whether the florist knew what kind of wood the barn has. All of these small things can make wedding planning stressful when it really doesn’t need to be!

Another piece of advice is, if you can, pay for your videographer or photographer to be there later in the evening too. There was some amazing dancing that I would pay a lot of money to see! Also, a lot of our guests arrived late so we didn’t get any professional photos of them which was a shame.

Cambridge College Wedding

The Friday before Christmas was a beautiful day to wander the garden at Emmanuel College, that means so much to Christine and Matthew. After a while walking, talking and having some couple portraits, it was time for them to read the personal vows that had written to each other. There wasn’t a breath of wind, everything was still as they exchanged words. A special time.
